Deck the Halls with Mobile Porn - Fa La La La La...
Take a look at any "hot list" of the most wanted items this holiday season and you'll easily spot a growing trend. Americans have always been drawn to electronic items such as computers, video games and entertainment devices, but this season mobile devices are HUGE on most holiday shoppers' lists and it doesn't take a genius to realize that the post-holiday boom this year will focus on mobile content and services.Jupiter Research recently released a study that showed an expected increase in global mobile adult-based content to be worth approximately $3.3 Billion (US) by the year 2011. Currently this market is estimated to bring in an approximate $1.4 Billion (US). This is a slight increase over other studies that were conducted recently by Informa Telecoms and Media, which last year predicted an approximate market value of $2.3 Billion (US) by 2010.In addition to increases in the US as 3G technologies and other portable mobile devices began to catch on and gain confidence with users, European mobile users continue to grow their interest in new options and opportunities, accounting for 39% of the adult content revenue in the next five years. Video-based services are expected to account for over 70% of the mobile adult content market.Businesses have kept a close watch on the adult industry - it has brought unimaginable success to all forms of media including print, film, VHS, DVD, PPV and of course the Internet. It is expected that because of the personal experience and opportunities available with a mobile device, adult content will see an even larger growth than experienced via the home computer. Bruce Gibson, research director at Jupiter Research says, "the mobile channel will provide a different way of presenting adult content to traditional delivery channels and will reach new audiences. Mobile is about fun and instant gratification… The biggest opportunity is at the casual and softer end of the adult market… lads in pubs sharing a video clip after a few pints… people looking for a bit of fun when they have spare time to kill, etc. - not the hard core stuff."Adult businesses aren't missing a beat. British-based Respond Mobile announced earlier this month that it would launch a Euro-based service called Rhythm TV, which will edit content from adult TV stations in the UK such as XXX TV and 100% Babes to provide clips of mobile video content. The service will officially launch in January. Online search engine Guba has announced that it will offer adult content and video files specifically tailored to the new 5G Apple iPods. Guba's subscription service will run approximately $14.95/month and offers both adult and non-adult content offerings. Guba's CEO Thomas McInerney told the press this week, "We can kid ourselves, but in the end it's probably porn that people want."So when you grab that shiny new iPod, that hot mobile phone or that mobile gaming device for your loved one this holidays season, prepare yourself and know that it probably IS the porn that they will go for first.
