Get Your Holiday "Pornaments" Here!

Consumers in the Florida area are freaking out - at least according to a recent news story posted online by Jacksonville's local Channel 6 news. Spencer's Gifts - a store known for selling "controversial" items and gifts, which include drinking games, adult/X-rated greeting cards, T-shirts and other novelties - is selling six holiday ornaments, which include an X-rated snowman, a naked elf and a horny reindeer.The chief complaint is that the ornaments are at the Regency Square Mall in Jacksonville, in "plain view" of children or anyone who "walks into the Spencer's stores" - not from the store window, but from inside the shop. Anyone who has ever been in a Spencer's store - holiday season or not - should be well-aware that the items sold in this shop are traditionally not something you would want your small child looking at anyway. Most parents are aware of this and keep young children OUT of these novelty stores as they likely would keep them away from a Victoria's Secret or other adult/sexy shop - it's common sense.So why the shock over the so-called "pornaments" then? It seems the shoppers in Florida are divided on this issue. One Baptist Church Reverend was asked how he felt about the items and he said, "It is just sad that they have to stoop to this kind of thing to defame Christmas. It says we are nothing more than sexual acts of physical beings and we are much more than that. We are spiritual beings and this is a spiritual holiday."Spencer shoppers disagreed - most said that they liked the items and that they would make great "gag gifts" for friends or relatives during the holiday season. One shopper said, "They are kind of funny… they don't offend me."Spencer's Gifts officials had "no comment," but one Jacksonville store employee pointed out the back of the boxes which say, "Unlike those other elves, we know everyone on the list (even the naughty ones) needs to have a smile and a laugh this time of year." Maybe they're right - everyone needs to lighten up a little - especially around the holiday season.
