Penis Surgery Doesn't Work
LONDON — The majority of men who undergo penis enlargement surgery are unhappy with the results, according to a recent study conducted at St. Peter's Andrology Center in London.
Surgeons questioned 42 recipients of the procedure. Two-thirds of the men said they were unhappy with the results. The average increase in size was 1.3 centimeters, or 0.5 inches. Many men even request a second surgery.
The author of the report, urologist Nim Christopher, said that penis enlargements have become the "most hyped" operations thanks to the endless spam advertisements bombarding people's e-mail accounts.
"For patients with psychological concern about the size of the penis -- particularly if it is normal size -- there is little point in offering them surgery because it makes no difference," Christopher said.
Rather, Christopher suggests in the report that men who are considering surgery opt instead for psychological counseling.
Other experts, such as Yoram Vardi of the Rambam Medical Centre in israel, agree that the procedure should be a last resort.
"We now know that the majority of these patients are dissatisfied after these procedures," Vardi said. "Research should be directed toward non-surgical options."
