Solar-Powered Bikini Coming

NEW YORK — Inventor and engineer Andrew Schneider has harnessed the powers of science, sexiness and the sun for one of his latest projects: a solar-powered bikini.
"There is no way I couldn't do this project," he said. "Once I realized it could be done, it had to be done. I also wanted the opportunity to be able to work with renewable and solar energy in a fun, kitschy, and consumer-oriented way."
Here's how it works: It's not a bikini that runs on solar power. It's a bikini that generates solar power. Schneider calls it the iDrink, and its solar cells pump out about 6.5 volts, which can power an iPod Shuffle or a small drink-cooling device.
"I decided to go with a female suit because of the sleeker form," he said. "The demographic I can foresee actually becoming interested in such a thing are those who enjoy mobile culture, hanging out, music, and kitsch. A demographic not unlike that to which the Apple corporation seems to preach."
