From CES in Las Vegas: Adult Industry Declares HD DVD the High-Def Winner

Reports of all the new technologies and gadgets launched at the 2007 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas have flooded the news both online and off. But another benefit to attending CES each year is getting the insight into all of the new trends that are expected to take hold in the New Year. With AVN's Internext Expo and Adult Entertainment Expo running the same weeks as CES, you might expect that there is quite a bit of adult industry influence found at this traditionally mainstream event as well. This year's big debate is - again - over Blue-ray vs. HD DVD as "the" high definition format. Mainstream media is quick to point out the influence of the adult industry over technology in the past - particularly the adult industry's support of VHS over Betamax. Of course VHS won out in the end, so many are wondering what the adult industry's top dogs are saying about the current high-def battle that is being debated around the globe. A survey was conducted on both the CES and AEE show room floors, and the majority of companies surveyed revealed that the industry is now leaning towards HD DVD. Their reasons? The biggest one is the cost. HD DVD is cheaper to produce than Blu-ray, which in turn trickles down to the consumer in retail costs. HD DVD is also easier to produce and studies have shown that there are now more HD DVD players in homes than Blu-ray players, despite Blu-ray's inclusion in the new X-Box 360 that was released Christmas 2005. Because of this, insiders are now predicting that HD DVD will ultimately win the format war.
