MSIE 7 Auto-Updates Begin
Automatic updates to the new Internet Explorer 7 have started popping up for MSIE 6 users last week in what Microsoft's Director of Product Management has called ;a very slow distribution.; The updates were expected on November 1st, but Microsoft says that they wanted to do the automatic updates slowly - about 1% of users - or one million PCs - per day. While the update contact is automatic, users are being asked first whether they want to install the new version of IE before launching the installation.Security updates are due next Tuesday, during the auto-update cycle for IE, but Microsoft has stated that the security updates will take precedence over the auto-updates, giving priority to the security fix issues. So far the update has been ;quite smooth,; according to the director. The entire process is expected to take approximately several months to complete, but IE staffers are hoping that it will be completed much sooner.
